I was honoured to be asked by Derg Credit Union to create a bespoke engraved slate to mark a very special occasion—the official opening of their new office, officiated by none other than Mairead McGuinness, European Commissioner for Financial Services. It was a privilege to contribute a piece of lasting significance to such a meaningful event. For this commission, I engraved the Credit Union’s logo onto a carefully selected piece of slate, ensuring the detail and craftsmanship reflected the importance of the moment.

Slate is a beautiful and enduring material, and it felt especially fitting for a piece that represents stability, community, and longevity—all values shared by Derg Credit Union. Once the engraving was complete, the slate was professionally framed by John Maher Framing in Nenagh. I was delighted to keep the entire process local, supporting fellow craftspeople and businesses in our area.

Attached is an image of the finished slate within its frame. It’s always fulfilling to see a project come together like this, especially when it becomes part of a celebration that brings people and community spirit together.
